When Being the Key Person Makes You the Weak Point

Be careful about putting yourself in the middle of everything and becoming the linchpin. Sometimes that’s good. Sometimes it’s necessary. But sometimes it’s ego or fear that puts you there. Sometimes the process would actually run better if you were taken out of the loop.

There are times when you need to step in and solve a problem. There are times when you put yourself in the middle of a process to make sure things are running smoothly.

Just be careful staying there.

Yes, you might keep things moving. But it can keep you from moving on to bigger things. And what happens when you leave that role? Or you’re out sick? Or you’re busy fixing another emergency?

You don’t stay the key employee.

You become the weak point in the process.
