Right Brain Left Brain

We all have a power within us that can help us to reach the greatest heights possible. This power comes from the right side of the brain. Our society likes to play down the right brain skills. We are told that we need to go to school and become a doctor, lawyer, engineer, etc. We are told to not be emotional and act rational. I believe we do this because it is very hard for us to understand and control the right brain. We cannot understand it because we are trying to understand it with the other part of the brain. An analogy of this is between the opposite sexes. I am a man and I try to understand my wife. There are certain things I will learn but I can never truly understand her because I am trying to make a woman’s mental processes fit into my pattern of thinking, it is like trying to put a square peg in a round hole.

Another reason we are taught not to use right brain thought (emotions) is because if we are not careful it can be a detriment to us. It makes us want to spend money with no end, it makes us jump to conclusions, it makes us angry, irrational, fall in love with the wrong people, and many other things if it is left unchecked. This is why I think we need to learn to balance the right and left brain. If given a little discipline you can tap into the right brains potential. The right brain gives you humor, intuition, ability to read others emotional state, it allows you to be creative, dream (waking dreams), and focus on the here and now. The right brain does not understand time.

Many athletes are known to be in the zone totally focused on the task at hand. If you have ever played a sport and wondered why you cannot hear the crowd, it is because you are totally focused on your task almost like it is automatic. I call this your natural drive which is fed by your right brain. There are some things that you do that time seems to pass very quickly; it is like the saying “Time flies when you are having fun” this is because you are mainly using your right brain which is not aware of time. If any of you have had pets especially a dog you will notice they do things that seem automatic and it does not make sense but they are driven to do it like barking anytime someone comes to the door. This is their instinct and instinct is right brain also, they are naturally driven to do this.

If you can find the things you do in your life that you are naturally driven to then you will be tapping into a power that has the capability to help you reach your wildest dreams. Your right brain is not restricted by reality. If you are able to find what tasks make you go into your zone you will be able to accomplish these tasks without thought or without feeling fatigued. It is like you were built for that task.

I know this sounds out there but trust me I know what I am talking about. A little background on me: In high school I excelled in math and science, then I went to college and earned an engineering degree, then I went to work as a process engineer. I was focusing mainly on my left brain skills. I started to notice that I would go into my zone when I was giving presentations. I also found I had an automatic need to find creative solutions to problems. I may not be a painter or musician but I can find the out-of-the-box solution to almost any problem and this is how I create. Looking back I was always great at understanding others mood and making them laugh. I just did not realize these were needed skills in life. Now I understand that I have strength in both my left and right brain skills and I am beginning to learn to rely on my intuition.

If you are interested in finding your natural drive you need to keep a journal of each time you find you are doing something that time just flies by. Once you create a list of these things you will be able to understand what you are built to do. If you focus your work in these activities you will be able to out earn anybody else at the same time having a blast.
